Representing Members – An introduction to Casework: 11, November, 2026, Midlands Region, Online
This is a course for reps who are new to representing individual members or those who are considering becoming more involved in the direct representation of members. More experienced reps are welcome to join as a refresher.

Rep 1 – Induction: 2, 3, 4 February, In Person, Edmund House, 12-22 Newhall Street, Birmingham, B3 3AS
This course is aimed at new reps and activists who will be undertaking the role in the near future. Existing reps who have not attended training before are also encouraged to attend. The course will cover all aspects of your role as a rep including your rights as a rep, union democracy, recruitment, organising and communication. You should complete this course prior to applying for the Rep 2 course.

Rep 2 – Representing UCU Members: 2, 3, 4 March, In Person, Edmund House, 12-22 Newhall Street, Birmingham, B3 3AS
This course is for reps who have completed Rep 1, H&S 1 or Introduction to Casework and are now actively engaged in representing individual members. The course also assumes you are actively engaged with your branch and understand both UCU’s democratic structures and your rights as a rep.

Equality Reps 1 – Induction: 17 March 2027, Online
This course is essential for new Equality Reps and provides the knowledge and confidence to put equality at the heart of branch activity. Participants will explore key UCU equality concepts, the role and rights of Equality Reps, and the legislation that supports equality work. The course focuses on practical ways to embed equality in organising, representation and member engagement. All UCU equality reps should complete this course before attending Equality Reps 2: Equality Bargaining and Organising for Change.

Equality 2 – Organising and Bargaining for Equality: 14 April 2027, Online
This course focuses on how branches can use organising, campaigning and collective bargaining to advance equality in the workplace. Participants will explore current equality legislation, gather and use equality evidence, and develop strategies to strengthen bargaining around equality issues. Suitable for Equality Reps and other branch officers with existing equality legislation and directly involved in branch bargaining.

Reasonable Adjustments – Supporting Members: 5 May 2027, Online
This course is for reps and activists involved in their local branch who want to learn more about
supporting members around reasonable adjustments. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to support individuals through the process, along with looking at how positive changes can be made through organising and campaigning.
