Senate Papers and Threats to Close Programmes

As some of you might be aware, last week Senate members were provided with two papers for consideration related to the future of Music programmes at Keele. The first was a proposal for Senate to formally approve the withdrawal of all Music programmes at Keele, the second was a proposal to explore how Music provision would be continued on campus after the Music degrees were withdrawn.

Keele UCU urges the University to stop the delivery of in-situ teaching

Today we have written to the Vice-Chancellor and Chair of Council the following letter. We have done so aligning with the national UCU position, and in light of Independent SAGE recommendations to Universities (28th September) and of the latest developments relating to the pandemic both in HE and across the country as a whole.

Reaction to SMT’s Answers

In my opinion, Keele SMT have not yet responded adequately to concerns raised by the community. These plans for a return to face to face teaching have been developed at the last minute, appear ill thought-out and are potentially dangerous. They should be challenged on this in the most robust fashion to prevent needless illness amongst staff and students (and their family members).
